Domaine Bruno Lorenzon "Le Clos Alfred" Bourgogne Blanc 2023
Pale gold in color, this expressive Bourgogne Blanc offers an enticing bouquet of crisp green apple, lemon zest, pear and honeyed peach layered with white flowers, fresh bread and delicate brioche. Subtle notes of butter, vanilla and toasted oak add richness while a vibrant citrus core keeps everything beautifully fresh. The palate is lively and finely textured with generous savory fruit, bright acidity and a distinctly chalky, mineral edge. Elegant yet concentrated, it finishes long, saline and mouth-watering.
Sourced from a 0.8-hectare organically farmed parcel planted at an exceptionally high density of up to 12,000 vines per hectare, the wine is made from carefully selected Chardonnay grapes harvested by hand in small 6 kg crates. Bruno follows a rigorous work ethic in the vineyards convinced that “great grapes are 90% of the work, they must be produced with a minimum of intervention and a maximum of understanding.” In the cellar, attention is paid to every detail to safeguard the wines' finesse and precision. Bruno’s approach is contemporary yet deeply rooted in traditions. The Chardonnay grapes are whole-bunch pressed for four hours with skin contact to extract phenolics and fine lees material. Fermentation takes place in old barrels for 6-8 weeks.
Bruno was a cooper before he was a winemaker, his barrels considered the finest and highly sought-after. As such, he ages his wine in barrels crafted entirely to his specifications, imparting beautifully integrated oak and toast that complement the wine's vibrant fruit and natural freshness. A perfectionist, he is extremely particular about his oak selection, producing his barrels from raw materials gathered from the forest, and he employs a very light toasting that imparts a subtle but harmonious integration of the wood.
Located on the heights above the village of Mercurey in the Côte Chalonnaise, Domaine Bruno Lorenzon has earned a reputation for meticulous vineyard work and exceptionally demanding viticulture. Drawing inspiration from organic and biodynamic principles, Lorenzon goes beyond conventional practices with high-trained vines, remarkably dense planting and an uncompromising commitment to quality. Bruno took over the family-owned domaine from his parents in 1997 and runs it with precision and passion, assisted by his sister. Le Clos Alfred is a selection of the estate's finest vines and a wonderful expression of Lorenzon's distinctive approach to Burgundy.
