Magna Montis Skin Contact Torrontés 2024
Aromas of citrus peel and white flowers lead the way. Balanced acidity and a textured mouthfeel characterize the palate, with citrus flavors lingering and subtle oak nuances.
Magna Montis made this wine with the intention of showing a different face of Torrontés. First, the skin contact adds a twist that is not often seen with this variety, and second, this is a particular clone of Torrontés that delivers more citrus than floral aromas like one would find in the traditional Torrontés clone. Plus, the concrete aging leads to a more a texture but still fruity palate. The grapes were sourced from La Arboleda vineyard in Tupungato, where the vines are trained in a high-wire pergola system, which keeps the grapes cool and out of too much direct sunlight in the intense Andean climate.
The grapes were hand harvested and placed in a stainless-steel tank for spontaneous skin-contact fermentation. After one month, the wine was pressed off the skins and sent to a concrete egg for four months of aging. Bottled unfined and unfiltered and with a small dosage of sulfur.
Magna Montis means “Big Mountain” in Latin, referring to The Andes, the largest Continental Range in the world and home of their wines. In Argentina altitude is one of their trademarks, however, Magna Montis values the importance of each of the players in the Ecosystem as well, meaning that their interpretation of the place will give a unique style to their wines.
Their philosophy is to make the wines they consider that show a place in particular vintage, making a yearly challenge without loosing the joy. They are fascinated with the fact that each year is a new opportunity to show different expression of the same place.
