Vincent Grall "La Manoir" Sancerre 2023
Known for its elegant, gastronomic qualities with a blend of fruity, floral, and mineral notes, "Le Manoir" is aged in 600L oak barrels, resulting in subtle oak, exotic fruit and vanilla flavors, balanced by a structured palate with minerality and freshness. The wine combines elegance and density with a touch of spice, as well as citrus and pink grapefruit flavors.
The 2023 vintage won a shower of medals, including the Berliner Wine Trophy 2023, Gold medal. As the world’s largest international wine competition with over 400 international judges and over 14,000 registered wines, this patronage is considered one of the most prestigious awards for a wine competition.
Since 1999, Vincent Grall has quietly been making tiny amounts of Sancerre in his garage from 3.8 ha of vines, making him the second smallest producer in the region. The production is split between two white cuvées coming from two distinct sites that are each vinified and aged differently, per the soil type. Of the two, Le Manoir de L'Etang, where the soils are more marl and clay, is perhaps seen by Vincent as more significant. It is the source of the domaine’s only single-vineyard cuvée, "Le Manoir."
Although not certified, the soils are worked manually and organic treatments are used. The intent is to work as naturally as possible in both the vineyards and the cellar. Unlike most Sancerre producers, all harvesting is done by hand.
