Lubanzi Red Blend 2022
An old-school Rhone blend with a contemporary style. This Shiraz (80%), Grenache (15%), Mouvedre (5%) blend beautifully expresses the quality of the Swartland region. On the nose you’ll experience roasted sweet potatoes and new licorice, the palate contains ripe plum, caraway seeds, cherry, red apple, eucalyptus, clove, juniper berries and ripe orange. Smooth and juicy, balanced with rustic elements and white pepper. Decent grip on the tannins with a soft leathery finish.
Crafted from vineyards dotted throughout South Africa’s coastal region, this wine was created to offer complexity while simultaneously showcasing the red grape champion of South Africa, Shiraz. Hand-harvested & made using little intervention in the cellar.
Lubanzi is named for a wandering dog that followed the two wine-makers on a week-long backpacking expedition when they were exchange students in South Africa. Lubanzi stuck with the two for six days & 100 miles. Lubanzi disappeared on the final night of their trip, as his job guiding Charlie and Walker to their destination was complete.
At the core of this wine project is a focus on giving back back to the families who live and work on South Africa's wine farms via the Pebbles Project in the form of health and education support. It is also 100% carbon neutral and certified Fair-Trade.
