Day Wines "Isla" Vermentino 2023

Isla Vermentino is a crisp Oregon white wine featuring bright, salty citrus aromas (lemon oil, lemon curd, lime) with hints of white peach and soft florals. The palate is crisp and full with citrus and stone fruit, a hint of briny olive and a salty bright zesty finish. Vacation in a bottle!

The grapes come from Layne Vineyard in the Applegate Valley, a site winemaker Brianne Day works with extensively. The age of the vines, the high elevation and wide diurnal shifts create a Vermentino that is racy yet ripe, salty and tropical, and reminds her of sunbathing on a beach with a piña colada in hand. The wine is named after Brianne's niece, Isla.

The fruit was brought in cold and grapes were direct pressed immediately, then the juice was cold settled 24 hours in a chilled stainless tank. Afterwards, the juice was racked off gross lees to neutral French oak 500L puncheons. Fermentation was spontaneous and complete, and malolactic fermentation was complete. It was fermented untouched and still, save for topping, and aged for over a year in barrel. Racked to stainless steel, cold stabilized and bottled with only a small addition of 40ppm total SO2.

They source fruit from organic or biodynamic vineyards around the state, and make vineyard and vintage specific wines with minimal input. The wines are either classic interpretations of varieties or blends as seen through the lens of Oregon, or they are unique creations dreamed up in the mind of Brianne Day. They are constantly looking for high quality fruit, and seek out the unexpected.
