Hofer Grüner Veltliner 2023

This is a classic example of clean, crisp, wholesome and quaffable Grüner Veltliner. This wine's faint pear scents follow through to the palate, where they are joined by bright, lemony freshness, green apple, fresh cream, stony mineral talc, and whispers of fresh herbs. It's easy, light and dry but utterly fresh and vivid.

Certified organic, estate-grown fruit from Auersthal in the Weinviertel region of Austria. Fermented in stainless steel and bottled fresh, the style here tends to be on the more crisp and green side of the variety. This is a perfect, easy-drinking white wine that’s a delicious and quaff-able but full of character.

The Hofer family farms vineyards in Auersthal, a dead-still little wine village in the Weinviertel, just barely beyond Vienna’s northern suburbs. Hermann and his wife Maria, along with their three children, Julia, Florian and Sebastien tend to the vines and cellar and run a small Heuriger at the estate. The gently rolling hills in this village are made up of deep loess soils and are planted predominantly to Grüner Veltliner. Additionally, the Hofer’s grow organic grains: rye, barley and alfalfa.

Hofer has been making wine since the early 1980s and has been certified organic since 2001 by the group Bio-Ernte, whose standards exceed EU guidelines for organic grape growing. The Hofer family is now farming bio-dynamically and plans to certify within the next few years.
