Peter Lauer "Barrel X" Riesling 2024

Peter Lauer's "Barrel X" is winemaker Florian Lauer's ideal expression: a slightly off-dry Saar Riesling drawn from four villages along the river. Offering an attractive nose of grapefruit, apple, greengage and aniseed herbs, it coats the palate with clean yellow peach and pear, with wet stone and slate minerality, all held together by refreshing acidity. Adventure in a glass: young enough to drink with curiosity, mineral enough to age, and structured enough to pair with food that few lighter whites could handle.

100% organic Riesling grown in the tiny Saar region of the Mosel, Germany, the land of cool-climates and amazing blue slate soil. This is Lauer’s Platonic ideal of what a Saar Riesling should be. In Burgundy, this would be the equivalent of a Bourgogne Blanc.

Peter Lauer focuses on dry and off-dry Rieslings that come from the Saar area of the Mosel Valley. The mineral on the palate along with the purity and focus is so clearly attibuted to the terroir. The grapes come from an intricate tapestry of parcels and sub-parcels, the majority from the hillside of Ayler Kupp.
