Domaine Fichet "Jeunes Vignes" Chardonnay 2023
Bright clean melon and white citrus aromatics, a bit of crisp apple and pear fruit, lightly salty minerality, a fresh, cleansing acidity and a fleshy natural mouthfeel with no oak presence. Just a touch of malolactic to round out the finish. Fun, fruity, young and fresh!
From a plot of Chardonnay planted just outside the boundary of the Maconnais in Burgundy in 1988 by Francis and Pierre-Yves. This is the only vineyard of the Domaine with no appellation status, so it must be labelled Vin de France instead of Burgundy. As such, this is a great deal for essentially White Burgandy Chardonnay without the official status.
The Fichet estate is located in Burgundy in a small village called Igé, more precisely in the hamlet Martoret. From a family of winemakers for several generations, the Fichets trace their ancestors back to the Middle Ages, when one Stephen Fichet worked with vines in 1408, including several plots that are still in use today. About 10 generations have succeeded him.
