Amatria “Despistao” Garnacha 2024
"Despistao" is a young, fresh, fruity Garnacha wine with low extraction, made with 50% whole cluster grapes from 25-year-old vines in Cirauqui. Bright raspberry red in color, slightly translucent, with fine tears. On the nose, an intense expression of fresh red fruits, particularly cherry, strawberry, and blackberry, in a lively and juicy profile, with a refined hint of spice. On the palate, fruit-forward with a good amount of black pepper spice, lively acidity, fine, silky tannins and a harmonious, long finish that emphasizes its elegance. A true pleasure in your glass. Delicious!
Winemaker Josu Amatria is a young man passionate about the wines of Tierra Estella. After working at several wineries, he brought his winemaking dream to life in 2021 with Amatria Wines and Vineyards. This project, located between the Rioja DOC and the Navarra DO, focuses on the Garnacha grape.
The grapes come from two unique plots: a 26-year-old vineyard in Cirauqui, planted in espalder on iron-rich clay and limestone soils, and a 42-year-old shrubby vineyard in Mañeru, planted primarily with Garnacha Tinta, with a small presence of Garnacha Blanca and Garnacha Roya. This latter vineyard is located on very chalky, poor soils with little organic matter.
The grapes were harvested by hand. Pressied with a vertical wooden press. Fermented spontaneously in stainless steel tanks using indigenous yeasts and temperature control. Malolactic fermentation also took place naturally in the same stainless steel tank. The wine was stabilized and clarified by cold pressing, without chemical intervention. No additives, except for a minimal amount of sulfites.
